An Israeli artist, eighth generation in Israel. Born in Jerusalem (1942). Lives and works in Jerusalem. For many years has painted mainly in watercolors, exhibiting her work since the mid-1970s and until the late 1990s. During this time she has occasionally experimented with additional techniques – mixed watercolor technique, wooden geometrical objects painted with industrial colors, pencil sketches and silk prints.
Towards the end of the twentieth century she has taken a new path; First, she started painting with oil on canvas, and second, she joined the Israeli Miniature Art Society and began participating in miniature art shows in Israel and around the world. Today she paints using several techniques: watercolors, oil on canvas and etchings. Her acquaintance with etchings began while staying in the International Center for Arts (Cité Internationale des Arts) in Paris during 2006.
Liat's works has been exhibited in Israel, United state of America, France, Holland, United Kingdom, Rumania, Canada and Australia.
About her Artwork
While the abstract paintings of Liat polotsky may be considered contemporary art, her work is not dictated by periodical trends, and she remains loyal to herself and to her own views about art. Unlike many of today's artists she pays special attention to the beauty of the painting, and does not abandon the traditional cornerstones of art such as composition and color matching.
Her oil paintings are rich with delicate and sensitive transformations along the color spectrum, and only rarely would one encounter in them the fingerprint of a paintbrush or sharp transitions. Both the oil paintings and the aquarelles draw a lot of their inspiration from the dazzling Israeli white light; The watercolors are built around white spaces which create a source of light, surrounded by ample layers of lucent colors, and also in her oil paintings it is often possible to spot a white patch acting as a source of light from which the painting emerges. Despite her unique style, her work and particularly her aquarelles exhibit a certain inspiration from the Japanese art which she admired in her younger years.
The themes of her paintings are usually drawn from the landscape surrounding her, which is transformed into something new, and from her Israeli-Jewish roots together with the Western civilization which she has absorbed throughout her life. Some of her larger works give a glimpse into her inner world, expressing emotional storms and personal turbulences, and are thus less characterized by external influences. Her miniature paintings often depict familiar landscape views , especially those typical around Jerusalem.
